Why is it such a headache?! Children's shoe shops in general seem to be busy all of the time. It takes ages to get served, and then it's normally via a ticketing machine which tells you what number you are in the queue. It feels like you are waiting forever! There are also never any shoes in your child's size, and so by the time a decent pair of shoes does eventually appear, you find that your own child is so tired, bored and irritable that you still end up coming out of the shop without a pair. So basically you have wasted about 4 hours of your day with nothing to show for it!!!! Someone should start a mobile shoe fitting company!
Hmm.. now that's an idea. I have found a lovely little independent shoe shop which is no more expensive and never has a big queue. They run a discount scheme - every 10 pairs of shoes (for same child) you get one free - this scarily doesn't take long once you've done the annual boots, then wellies, trainers, school shoes etc. I also always say to the assistant not to open all the boxes at once - you can guarantee that the sparkliest shoe or trainers with the flashiest lights will be adamantly chosen by your child, regardless of fit or price! BTW AVOID shoe shopping at the very end of any school holiday at all costs :-)
